Everything Egyptian travellers need to know

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is a mandatory requirement for a Schengen visa, not optional. The policy must meet specific requirements set out in Article 15 of the Schengen Visa Code.

Mandatory requirements

Minimum coverage: €30,000 (some countries accept USD equivalent) Validity: must cover the entire duration of your stay and all Schengen countries you plan to visit Coverage must include: emergency medical treatment, hospitalisation, emergency repatriation, and repatriation of remains The policy must be valid in all 29 Schengen states — not just your primary destination

What to look for in a policy

Buy travel insurance that specifically states 'Schengen visa-compliant' or 'Schengen Area coverage.' The insurance certificate must show: the insured person's name, dates of coverage, coverage amount (in EUR), geographic coverage (Schengen Area or Europe-wide), and the insurer's stamp and signature.

Reputable insurers available in Egypt

AXA (Egypt), Allianz Travel, GlobeMed, Misr Insurance. Many Egyptian travel agencies also offer bundled insurance — ensure the policy meets all Schengen requirements before purchasing.

Cost

Typically €15–35 per person per trip for a 14-day policy. Annual multi-trip policies are available for frequent travellers at €80–150, which is cost-effective if you travel more than twice per year.
