Rejection reasons
Understanding why Schengen visa applications are refused helps you address issues proactively and submit a stronger application.
Most common refusal reasons
Article 32(2)(a): Purpose of visit could not be ascertained — your cover letter was vague, or your stated purpose doesn't match your supporting documents.
Article 32(2)(b): Justification for travel not reliable — contradictions between your letter, flight dates, and hotel bookings.
Article 32(2)(c): Doubt about intent to leave — insufficient ties to Egypt (no job, no family, no property) or a history of overstays.
Article 32(2)(f): Insufficient means — bank statements don't show enough funds for the duration of stay.
Article 32(2)(d): Prior Schengen refusal or overstay — always declare previous refusals honestly.
How to address weak points
No/short employment: provide a strong sponsor letter from a family member in Egypt or abroad, combined with healthy savings.
First-time traveller: be extra specific about your itinerary, hotel bookings, and return ties. Include additional evidence of Egypt ties.
Young applicant: show strong ties — enrolled in university, living with family at permanent address, parents' support letter.
Gap in bank statements: explain in your cover letter (salary recently changed, transferred between accounts, etc.).
Can I appeal or reapply?
You have the right to appeal a refusal in the country where you applied, within the timeframe stated on your refusal notice (usually 15–30 days). Alternatively, you can reapply with additional/stronger supporting documents — but you must declare the previous refusal on the new application form. Concealing a refusal will result in a permanent ban.
