Greece visa from Egypt (VFS)
Greece processes Egyptian Schengen applications through VFS Global, with two centres — Cairo and Alexandria — that have different rules depending on which office issued your passport. This guide summarises the official VFS requirements exactly as published.
Cairo or Alexandria? — it depends on your passport
Egyptian passports issued by offices 18, 19 & 20 (Alexandria), 21 (Marsa Matrouh), 36, 37 (Beheira) must apply in Alexandria. If your Egyptian passport was issued by any other office, you must apply in Cairo.
Cairo: Lodge no more than 6 months before, and as a rule no later than 15 days before travel. Gap between old and current passport must not exceed 3 months.
Alexandria: Lodge no more than 3 months (90 days) before, and as a rule no later than 15 days before travel. No gap is permitted between old and current passport.

• All fees and services are payable in cash or with credit / debit card.
• The VFS service charge (EGP 1,240, incl. VAT) is changeable based on the euro rate and can change without notice; any difference is paid on the submission day.
• Visa fees are non-refundable and are paid at the time of submission.
Standard documents (all Type C)
✔ Application form — Duly filled in English.
✔ One recent coloured photo (3.5 × 4.5) — Not more than 6 months old, with no glasses. See photo specifications.
✔ Original passport — Valid up to 3 months after the expiry of the visa, with at least 2 blank pages.
✔ Family or Individual registry certificate — Original from the country of origin, translated into English, Family registry if married/divorced, Individual registry if single.
✔ Previous passports / travel history — Applicants with no Schengen visa in the last 7 years submit previous passports covering that period (Cairo: gap ≤ 3 months; Alexandria: no gap). If none, a translated Al-Mugamma movement certificate covering the last 7 years listing all passports.
✔ Proof of professional status
✔ Personal bank statement, last 6 months — Very recent, each page stamped, submitted in English including the name.
✔ Round air ticket reservation — Including the internal transportation inside Greece.
✔ Prepaid hotel reservation — For each night in the Schengen area, with proof of payment from the hotel.
✔ Medical travel insurance — Minimum coverage €30,000, see the official insurance companies list.
✔ Minors (under 18)
Photo specifications
• Physical size 3.5 × 4.5 cm; one recent colored photo, not more than 6 months old, with no glasses.
• Must fulfil the ICAO norm: white background, full face, non-smiling, no sunglasses/hat/head covering (unless for religious or ethnic reasons).
• Not tilted (portrait style), showing both edges of the face; close-up of head and top of shoulders so the face takes up 70 to 80% of the photo; sharp focus.
• Digital: at least 240 px wide × 320 px high, keeping a 3 × 4 (width × height) proportion (e.g. 250 × 340 is valid, 290 × 340 is not).
• Digital: file size must never exceed 150 KB; resolution 300 dpi; JPEG format only (BMP, TIFF, GIF, PNG are rejected).
• Children included in a parent's passport need one photo each glued to the parent's application form.
Processing time
15 calendar days, extendable up to a maximum of 45 calendar days. The Embassy may request further documents, information, or an interview, which can prolong processing.
General rules
• The Consular Authority might ask for updated documents.
• The Greek Consulate cannot accept any Arabic documents, all Arabic documents must be duly translated.
• Commercial registry, tax card and the Mugamma certificate must be translated at the Greek community only.
• All documents are submitted original except the commercial registry and tax card (which must be seen at submission).
• The validity of submitted documents is only 1 month from the issuance date.
• Appointments once booked cannot be cancelled nor rescheduled; a no-show requires a new appointment and the booking fee is paid again.
• Incomplete, unclear or unsigned applications will not be accepted.
• All applicants must attend the appointment at the visa application center personally.
• Multi-country trips: apply at the embassy of the country of the longest stay; for equal stays, the country of first entry.
• Honeymooners: proof of wedding / being married is required.
• Spouses: a marriage certificate is mandatory if applying together or with documents related to the other.
• If submitting any documents related to the applicant's mother, the applicant's birth certificate must be submitted.
• Foreigners: a valid Egyptian residence permit valid for at least 3 months after the end of the trip.
