Everything Egyptian travellers need to know

Photo requirements

Passport photos that don't meet Schengen specifications are one of the most common avoidable reasons applications are delayed or rejected at the counter.

Technical specifications

Size: 35mm wide × 45mm tall Background: Plain white or very light grey — no patterns, no shadows Face: Must cover 70–80% of the photo, looking straight ahead Expression: Neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and clearly visible Glasses: Not permitted (since 2015 Schengen rules) Head covering: Only for documented religious reasons Recency: Taken within the last 6 months Quantity: 2 photos required

Common rejection reasons

✗ Coloured or patterned background ✗ Shadows on face or background ✗ Wearing glasses ✗ Red-eye effect not removed ✗ Face turned or tilted ✗ Photo older than 6 months ✗ Photo printed on regular paper (must be on photo-quality paper) ✗ Blurry or low-resolution image

Where to get them in Egypt

Professional photo studios (recommended) in Cairo, Alexandria, and major cities. Avoid automatic photo booths for visa photos — the quality is often insufficient. Expect to pay EGP 50–150 for a set of 4–6 photos at a studio.
